  • 150 Yamaha Four stroke (Warranty issues)

I believe this is a 2004 engine. On the first 100 hour warranty check by a different Yamaha dealer, we found corrosion on the shaft when the lower unit was pulled. Apparantly the seal is defective and was causing moisture to get up into that area. Do we need to replace this shaft if the corrosion isn'nt too deep? I'm concerned that if they slide rough surface of that rusted shaft thru the seal, it will only make it worse. Is this fixable by warranty? Or am I having to foot the bill for a corroded shaft because of a defective seal on an engine less than a year old?

They also found one of the cyclinders low on compression. That too needs fixing. I did the breakin exactly the way the manual described.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
Is there a way I can contact a Yamaha rep directly?

    Hello ML,

One would "think" that the issues the you have described would be covered under warranty. I would demand a new shaft, for the reason you described.

Certainly, the low compression issue should be covered under warranty.
