F115TXRB 4 stroke 2003 Harness issue

I broke down on the lake a week ago. Running at full rpm And engine just stopped. Would crank but no start. After tow in and back at home Began Trouble shooting. Found broken Negative wire at ecu right at plug. Removed pin from socket. I took wire straight to engine block negative and motor starts right up. What does ecu control negative for and can you get replacement pins.
Is it ok to run engine like this?

The ECU requires a ground to operate. May be able to match pin at marine or automotive store, Yamaha doesn't off the pin.
