  • 85 115 yamaha starts cold when primmed

I am working on a 1985 115hp v4. The engine will not start unless I pull the spark plugs on any two cylinders and prime with with gas, the engine will then start and run fine after the engine cools down have to reprime to start. I was told this could be the lavender seals on the crank that seals each cylinder. I am wondering if there are any other possibilities.

A couple things to check on your 115

    1. Remove the engine cover, then the black cover on the front of the carbs.
Turn the key to the run position (don't start or crank it), then operate the choke toggle switch near the key. Do the choke plates right inside the carbs click shut? Do they shut completely?

    2. If the choke plates are operating properly, then does it help if you squeeze the fuel primer bulb (alot) before starting?

If No. 2 above doesn't help, then you may need a carb rebuild.

Good luck, post back your results of the above so others may chime in to help.
