trim indicator

have a 1986 90 horse put new guage in but the trim indicator shows all the way up have i just not connected wires right or should i be looking at something else the trim switch at the motor moves freely also thanks ahead for any help

follow wires to sender, mounred on tilttube, be sure cam isnt broken or moving or sensor isnt seized up

thanks for the heads up on the sender unit but the sender looks fine every thing else is working with the "new" guage but the trim bars i'm wondering if i might have scewed up rewiring but it all looks the same as i did a wire for wire swap i think the old guage still worked but got sun burnt so it was hard to tell thats why i changed it any help would be appreciated thanks Steve
