2002 90 @-Stroke problems

Every once in a while my alarm will go off. Sometimes when I'm cruising at 3500 RPM's it'll go off and I'll shut off the engine for 5 minutes, The alarm will turn off and never come on again for the rest of the day. It has also gone off as soon as I start the engine at the landing, before the boats even off the trailer. I have replaced the thermostat, but not the poppet or grommet. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, how would I know if my water pump is working properly? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Could be overheat alarm or low oil level alarm, check oil level in oil tank.
Probably needs new water pump, should be replaced every two years.
