  • 200 HPDI Oil pumping problem 2000

Looking for help with an oil pumping problem with my Yamaha 200 HPDI on a 22' Grady. I don't have an hour guage but probably 400 hours on the engine. In the past 7 years, I've had great luck with this engine (only one VST filter issue)

The electric motor built into the oil tank does not now pump oil up to the smaller tank on the engine. So far, I've removed the larger tank (very clean in the bottom) and checked the pump. The pump worked fine directly connected to the 12 volt battery in my car in the garage. Pumped oil out of the tank. I took it to the boat and tested in onboard before installing the tank in the bilge and it worked fine again, I used the emergency toggle switch to operate it.

I reinstalled the tank, connected the harness wires, etc. and set off. The pump didn't resupply the oil and I had to add oil manually to the top tank. The toggle switch also didn't activate the pump. The low oil alarm works fine.

    I got home and tested:
    - the pump again with my car battery - OK
    - the 3-position oil sensor inside the small oil tank using a multimeter, as per the manual, and it checks out fine.
    - the emergency toggle switch tests OK too
    - each of the 4 wires in the harness that runs from the top of the large oil tank to the engine test OK
    - plastic couplings look OK too. I sprayed with WD-40.

No luck in getting the pump to do its job and now I'm stumped. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Make sure when you replace remote oil tank back in mounting bracket that it don't pinch or kink a oil hose and restrict oil flow, if didn't replace small inline oil filter on back of remote oil tank probably needs to be replaced.

Sounds like your getting close to resolving it.

I had similiar issues, mine turned out needing a new wire harnew from the remote oil tank to the engine. (common problem area i was told, mine tested fine for continuity, but would not work when supplied 12v. I used a small wire to jump the connectors on either end of the harness and everything worked, so new harness instsalled and all is well)

the oil pump will only transfer oil if Remoter tank has plenty of oil and sensor is working...and small tank sensor requests more oil...

good luck im sure youll find it. What does the gauge say ? full?
