I have a 1996 Yammy Saltwater Series II, 225 hp. The thing runs like a top. At the ramp it takes two short cranks to get it started and then it stays running and warms up. Not much smoke and the thing just goes.
The trouble starts when I sit for a while, like at a sandbar or at anchor while bottom fishing, and then I go to start back up. It starts but it stalls, coughs, sputters, surges and at idle the RPMs drop to around 400-500 when out of gear.
I have come to the conclusion that it's heat-soaked induced vapor lock. When not running, the carbs get heat-soaked and the fuel boils and bubbles which makes for a "not-so-good" fuel delivery.
I'm nearly 100% sure this is the root of my "stalling-when-hot" problem.
Now, what do I do about it?
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
