yam 80hp 2stroke

hi all, i am just getting into boats after a lifetime of motorbikes...just bought a skeeter with an extended transom and a yam 80hp 3 cyl 2stroke engine...my first boat was a dory with 80 mercury 2 stroke
the yam came with a broken tach so i bought a universal...i need to know how many poles my engine has and the rev range tickover and wot
secondly the motor starts and runs fine up to 28mph then for the last 1/3 movement of the accellerator nothing...(i think that is when the timing advance kicks in) if someone could give me a clue where to start looking...also how can i find out the age

We have a 90TLR and the manufacture date is on one of the plates, I recall on the transom bracket.
