  • Basics - 2001 OX66 250 Saltwater

More specifically, I guess SX250TURZ - 315 hours. First, I'm interested in what the engine should be cranking at WOT. I haven't really found the specifics, but it appears that the band is 4,500-5,500. I haven't taken the new -to me - motor past 4,500, but it seems to me a two stroke should comfortably crank 5,500. (Neither of the temp guages seem to be reading, so I'm thinking I need to replace a sensor before going wild.)

If it makes any difference, it's on a Proline 231 with bracket.

    Any comments or critiques appreciated.

Rpm range is 4500-5500 rpm's at WOT, rev limiter starts at about 6200 rpm's.

Thanks very much - I think 5,500 would push the boat nicely, although I've yet to see a flat sea or actually taken it up that high. It certainly is a sweet engine though.

One of the reasons I haven't pushed it is that neither the digital or analog temp gauges appear to be giving me a reading. My belief - which could be dead wrong - is that the warning and fail safe sensors are separate from the readouts, so it's still safe to operate the engine without the gauges.

The problem is that neither I nor my local dealer can figure out which sensor is which. My manual shows a sensor on the starboard cylinder bank, which I think is the one that feeds the gauges. The dealer shows a "thermosensor" in the electrical 3 diagram. As my recollection is that a sensor on the cylinder head appeared to have some oxidation, I'm thinking that's the sensor that needs replaced, but can't find it on any of the parts diagrams.

      Thanks again.

The temp sender for temp gauge threads into water port on block and has a blue and black wire in it. The temp sensor for warning light and alarm is in block next to thermostat with pink and black wire.
