Hi all,
I have an 88 30ESG with some high end banging issues. It starts around 80% WOT and causes an RPM drop off and a loud banging sound. I have checked the compression on all three cylinders and am attempting to diagnose the problem further. What concerns are there for removing the prop to perform an "in the barrel" run up to that approximate throttle setting to see if its a load issue on the lower unit, or an ignition/fuel issue. I am aware of runaway RPM issues but what is the likely hood of that with a close monitor on the throttle settings?
Thanks
