I am new to this forum so please have patience with me until I figure how things work. I have a 1994 90 HP Yamaha that lost spark all of a sudden. I pulled the flywheel to replace the stator and discovered there is a thin metal liner inside the flywheel that covers the magnets. It has a 1/4" hole worn in it. After inspecting the stator I can't see any marks where anything is scraping anything so I feel this must be something that happened with whoever owned this motor before me and they replaced the stator but not this liner. What I need to know is: what is this liner for - is it really needed - will this hole cause a problem - and can the liner be purchased seperate from a whole flywheel. Thanks to anyone who can/will help with this and have a good day. WDJr
