I have a 1992 225 w/425 hours on it. The engine runs like a champ. I want to pick up a new boat in 5 years when the kid is out of school. I can get this one totally rebuilt for under $3000 with a warranty and shift rod since the '92 is not stainless. Mileage is 2 miles/gallon the new ones are 3. Not much of a savings.I don't feel like putting $20K into something I only plan on keeping 5 years.
What do you think?

There's a metal U-bracket on the top of the engine. Can I use this to remove the engine from the boat? Will it hold?

Best to check condition of gearcase, power trim unit(any other major expenses that might come up) as well to see if they are in good shape. Yes you can use lifting hook on top of engine to remove.
