  • Fuel Additives

I have a 1993 2 stoke 6MSH outboard. From estate, been sitting 10 yrs. Claimed to have only run 10-15 hrs. Tops. I plan to run a rich mixture (maybe 32:1), for the first gallon. Then 50:1 What about 'Ring Free' to RE-Break in' ? What are your thoughts on SeaFoam? Mystery Marvel Oil? I've had good luck with MarvelOil; but on older 4 stroke engines. I am leaning towards Ansoil for mix, or a full synthetic, but will seafoam mix OK with this? I live 2 hrs from Yam dealer and would just as soon start what I'll probably finish with. Thanks, oth

100:1 is the normal mixture, the breakin mix was 25:1 for first 3 gallaons gas but 32:1 would be ok for it. Ring Free would be ok but I'm not familiar with the others additives and oil.

I use Amsoil 2-stroke oil and it burns real clean. I would run a tank along with Seafoam at 2 oz per gal to clean all the old carbon out.

Before you try to start motor , clean, flush entire fuel system including draining of carbs. Any trash in system is heading directly for carb jets. I use Stabil Marine, Ringfree and Pennzoil 100% Sythetic Outboard oil with great success. Also install a fuel/water seperator(Walmart $27) before you start motor, if possible. Sounds like you've got a pretty much brand new motor there, so it's doubtful you've got much carbon, just crud from old fuel in system. Good Luck and let us know how you do!

Thanks. Fuel/water seperator? 6 hp portable w/ bulb hose and 4 gal. tank....is this seperator a small inline outfit the size of an inline auto fuel filter? I guess it would install on the tank end of the bulb line? Also, I'm not sure if my factory tank hose is 1/4" or 5/16" i.d. 1993 6hp 2-stroke. 6MSHR.

Fuel/water seperator looks just like the oil filter on your car, just mount it(2 screws) on the inside of your transom or any suitable place, run your fuel lines from the primer bulb to the seperator, then to the motor(you can buy a couple of suitable fuel line barbs, plugs and teflon pipe compound at Ace Hardware or similar store). Walmart has the fuel/water seperators for $27 and it's probably the best preventive maintenance item for the money. I just unscrew my seperator canister from time to time, dump it out into a bucket(so I can see what water/crud was in it), then just reinstall it. Of course a new canister is good once a year or whenever necessary.

Yep, the Yamaha and Racor fuel/water seperators may be better, but cost a good bit more, and for my everyday use and tight budget, the Walmart unit works very well. The Yamaha and Racor units are sorta professional grade equipment.

                  Fuel Additives

100:1 ??? Maybe I'm wrong, but my gut says that will gald some walls. Are you sure? What 2 cycle mix? Yamaha, I guess. Is it FULLY SYNTHETIC??? 100:1 ?

50:1 is the correct fuel/oil mix for your motor. 100:1 will work but the 50:1 is better for the motor during running and to protect from corrosion on internal engine parts when motor is shut off. Good Luck!
