  • 1993 115 yamaha alarm goes off turn off and alarm gone

Hello just wondering I have a 1993 yamaha 115 2 stroke and on the weekend in rough weather and trailing sea the alarm sounded in the control box. I stopped turned off and it was ok to go again. just wondering if anyone has any ideas where to start to trouble shoot please.
A little more information, I just replaced the oil control unit and am thinking it may be the problem as it is a newer version of the original. The heads were cool enough to touch when the alarm went off.

Do you have Yamaha gauges with warning indicators? What warning light came on?

It could have been engine overheat alarm or low oil level in engine oil tank alarm, check oil system to see if working properly.

I just took the boat for a run the alarm seems to come on at higher revs there is no indications on the dash just the revs drop and its good to go again in a couple of minutes.

            Water Impellors or thermostat

I had a similar with my 90 150 v6 I changed the thermostat and the impeller and the issue went away, Also check that your water intake vents are not clogged with seaweed or other foreign matter.

            Hope this helps....
