  • Rupture in Upper casing

My 1996 ELHU T9.9 has a rupture at almost the top on the back of the upper casing. ( just below the cowling release lever)
I've been told this rupture is due to salt accumulation in a chamber in the upper casing (salt accumulates from salt water in this chamber, is dried by heat of exhaust chamber, and expands again with addition of more salt water, eventually rupturing the casing when there is o more rom to expand.)
Additional use of the motor only increases the size of the rupture.

I've been told this was a common design defect for Yam T9.9's of this year. and that Yamaha was actually was supplying parts for this design defect years ago.

My question is ...how to fix it with replacing the entire upcasing which I'm also told is approximately $1k. Just grind it out/clean it out, and weld it up ?

Any help would be appreciated .... Thanks !
