I have have a 1990 Yamaha 200 hp Auto Lube engine and the primary 2 stroke oil tank pump, located under the engine cowling, is not operating when the low level switch triggers it to.
When the manual override switch is lifted the pump operates and fills the primary tank. My mechanic says he has checked the float switch, which does sound the alarm when the oil level gets low, and says it all checks out okay. He has also checked out the wiring and he believes the problem lies with the ECU and suggests it is not signalling the pump to operate. There is also a warning arrow on the speedo LCD display pointing to an orange oil warning signal which will not reset what ever the condition of the oil level.
Obviously if it is the ECU it concerns me as it can be an expensive fix. Can anybody suggest any thing else we should check before looking to sort the ECU?
If it turns out to be the ECU can anybody suggest where I can locate a second hand one or get my old one repaired, I understand a new unit can be thousands?
I trust this makes sense and look forward to your expert opinions.
Thanks Julian
