I recently "inherited" a Yamaha 115hp outboard motor (mdl# 115ETLG). The previous owner stated the motor ran fine, however it is missing all the internals on the lower unit (i.e. I only have the casing) and the control cables.
I would like to rebuild this unit for use on a pontoon, however given the missing lower unit and controls, I am not sure if I can do much meaningful testing on the powerhead.
I would like to avoid putting to much money in the lower unit and control box, before I can confirm the condition of the power head; is there any way I run can start the motor without having the aforementioned components (e.g. cooling with garden hose, hot wiring, etc.)
I apologize if these are silly questions, I'd just hate to think about trashing a good motor, or spending $$$ to find out I have a bad motor.
Thanks to all those that can offer any assistance.
Thanks,
Rich
