This is an oil pump question. I have been fouling plugs every 40-50 hours for 6 years now and looked at the shop manual which indicates the stop tab on the pump housing should make contact with the pump lever when the throttle is in neutral. Mine wasn't the case, in fact there was roughly a 1/4 inch space at neutral. I attempted to adjust it according to the manual and discovered that once I loosened the jam nut and rotated that white plastic connector, it "bottoms" out or tightens up before it should, or before the stop tab would contact the pump lever. It appears this oil pump linkage rod is too long on the threaded end. I was looking at Yamaha's on-line parts catalog and noticed the oil pump rod linkage part number as 65L-41241-00-00 but in bold red letters underneath that it says "This part has been replaced by 65L-41241-10-00. Does anyone know if it was replaced because it is in fact too long and the new part number corrects this problem? Thanks.
