v6 crankshaft

i have a 1988 v6 225excell which has snapped the crank at the flywheel flush with top of motor.i have been told this is a weak point on these engines and should only need crank replacing to be up and running again.any one heard of this happening before?

No I haven't had any cranks break, it needs to checked closely to see if any other damage.
