  • 92 130 temp alarm! Help!

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum, and just recentlly purchased a 92 Maverick with a 92 130 yamaha. I've been dealing with the issue of temp alarm at high rpm's (4000+) also. I've been trying to do the repairs myself with little success, lots of fun though. It has a new impeller and thermostats. Today I purchused PCV, spring, and gasket, getting ready to install. I need your help with how to. Photos of the actual process would be awesome. Thanks for the tips.

the prv's are quite easy, i use a long screwdriver to push on cover/compressing spring while i get the bolts started.

have you also replaced stat/s ?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I've replaced the stats and you were right the PCV was easy. There was a lot of salt build up in there. Still heating up and over heat alarm. On to the water jackets. I don't think the guy that owned the boat before me ever flushed the engine. The first picture is before and the second is after one night of cleaning. What do you think? Is this a lost cause? Any tips on cleaning?

if the water jacket is that dirty, the exhaust plate jacket should be in the same shape!!! maybe you should take it off and clean it, it is the double plate between the 2 heads, bunch of 6mm -10 mm head bolts.
        good luck

Here's the before and after. Cleaned everything out (PITA), painted it with zinc chromate. I'll button it up tomorrow and hopefully this solves the problem. Thanks for all the help. I'll update.

What the........... I put it back together and tried to fire it up in the drive way, nothing!!! The only thing it's doing is everytime I turn the key I get one click. Similiar to a dead battery, ruled that out by buying a new battery. TT and all other compontents work fine. My brother tapped the starter with a hammer and it tried to turn over for a second or two, but only once. Checked all fuses that I know of. Could it be a ground problem.

Yes, it could be a bad ground or other connection problem . Even a bad cable is possible or bad brushes or bad start relay. Do a voltage drop check when energizing the starter to find out where the problem is or if it is pulling amps.
