  • 1998 OX66 -225 Rebuild

I just had a powerhead rebuilt by a less than reputible source and now have discovered that one side of the engine(3 cylinders) have normal compression-115psi and the other side all three cylinders have 85 psi compression.

The motor seems to run ok after several other problems that I have already addressed with this shop.

They are saying that they will check out this issue and repair it.

I am wondering how could this happen?

This motor was supposed to have all new pistons and crankshaft.

I don't trust these guys and am trying to educate myself before taking it back to them again.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

Iam no expert on outboards, but have done a couple of 2 strokes, to me it sounds like they just put new rings on it. instead of going to an oversize piston. it should all be pretty close to each other on compression, 115 is kind of low for freshly rebuilt engine, it should be more like 130. good luck trying to get those guys to do it right for you.
