I have a 1997 225 saltwater series engine. Can anyone tell me the proper procedure for checking the oil and filling the power tilt/trim unit.

I have a 2000 C115 and the procedure is as follows (yours should be the same):
1.Raise the outboard all way up with power trim/tilt motor.
2.Lock the outboard in place with the tilt lock lever.
3.Remove the reservoir cap and inspect the fluid level - it should be just at the bottom of the cap/filler hole - ATF Dexron 2 is suitable fluid to add.
4.Replace cap (this instruction is obvious - but the manual has it in there anyway, so I better put it here too).
