  • River boat, Yamaha 40 HP jet drive

Hi guys this is my first time on this site, I have a couple questions that I hope can be answered,
I have the opportunity to buy a river boat 14' flat bottom with a 1992 40MJQH jet drive motor including trailer. The whole package appears to be in A1 shape
    My questions are
Is this boat & motor worth $5700 in A1 shape,
Is this size of motor good or just barely adequate for this boat

Go get pricing for the same set up new to compare.
Then see if you are willing to pay that much for a 18 year old rig.
    Sounds too high for me.
See what the boat is rated for , think about what your needs and expectations are for the boat, and take it out and run it where and how you plan on using it. That will give you an idea if it is underpowered for your use or not. Don't forget to consider how much load you plan on carrying normally.

Seems like a lot of $$$ for a 1992, but maybe offer the guy a little less. The 40HP jet drive translates to about 25HP at the pump due to less efficiency compared to a prop driven motor. It's not going to be a hot rod but should get you around fine and you won't have to worry about shallow water/submerged objects tearing up your prop/lower unit. Good Luck!

        I got the boat

thanks for the replies guys, I talked him down to $5200 it still maybe a little high but the boat is indeed in premium shape and with only 10 Hrs on a fresh power head rebuild, carbs worked over, new coils and wires, new exhaust tube,
