92 Yamaha 30hp outboard. Putting the leg back on after water pump replacement,I pulled up on the shift shaft and it moved up inch or so. Had to jiggle many times plus turn prop shaft and it fell back in the clog all works normal. I have been told that the pin broke and the gear assembly has to be torn down….I find this very hard to believer…could anyone shed light on this. Thanks in advance…aL

You might have to tap it out with a long drift, ratchet extension or screw driver. Use what fits.
