Lower Unit compatability question

I have a 2005 Yamaha F250 that is in need of a lower unit. I have heard that the F225 lower unit is the same. The reason I ask is that I can find used/rebuilt F225's where I cannot find any for a F250. I really don't want to spend $3k for a new one if I don't have to.

Any help is appreciated.

It may bolt up and work(never tried it) but they are different gearcases.
