How Many hours ?

I have a 1991 Pro V 150 that is on a Skeeter 175 DX that was purchased new.
The motor now has 317 hours. Is that a lot of hours ? I take very good care of the boat and it is kept inside and I fish about twice a month year round. How long would you questemate that this motor will be still running. I am 63 years young and I can't afford a new one.

I have a friend thats had his outboard for 15 years and looks like it did when he bought it , still goes like a charm amd never missed a beat ! Gets it serviced each year with new spark plugs and the idle checked and set ! its all that ever gets done year in and year out ,has done a lots work and we have been in some hairy situations over the years being more than 20 miles off shore punching a head wind and rough seas . Takes 2 hours to get to the fishing grounds and 6 hours to get back after a days *****ing and going all the time .

If it makes you feel any better, my first motor was a 1987 Yamaha Pro 50 - When the #3 piston ring failed I had 1,187 hours on it. No kidding! Never messed with the Precision Blend oil system and never had a problem with the motor up to that point. It still "limped" in with the 2 good cylinders.
I can't say I neglected the motor but I cannot claim that it was pampered either.

One thing I do try to do is keep the fuel tank full. After I use my boat I always tank up to remove the airspace in the tank. Air contains moisture, moisture causes problems!

If the motor is running fine now then it will probably continue right on. Do some preventive maintenance and be sure to install a fuel/water separator and use the Stabil Marine all the time. Walmart sells fuel/water separator for $27 and very easy to install with 2 screws, just cut your fuel lines carefully to avoid any rubbing or kinking. It's the best thing you can do to keep your motor running like a top! Good Luck!

I do pamper my boat and motor and I will get to Walmart to buy a water seperater. I have been using Sea Foam since new and I just switched to the Starbrite product because of the 10% ethanal being used here in AZ. Sea foam does not have that preventative in it.
I love to fish in this boat and every time I go to the lake people make comments to me about how good it looks and "are you breaking in your new boat". The look on thier faces when I tell them its a 1991 just keeps me grinning. I have had many offers on this boat. One guy wanted my wifes phone number just in case I kick the bucket and she sells it.

You can just unscrew that fuel/water separator cartridge and dump it in a clean container to see what's in there, and then put it back on. The cartridges are about $7 at Walmart but no need to change it all the time just to waste money. But I do carry a spare cartridge in the boat just in case I ever need it. After you install this new filter you'll notice that you get about nothing in the motor mounted filter/screen, which is just double protection. I notice the new Yamaha High Output motors come with 2 fuel/water separators on them, one on the transom and the one on the motor. It tells you what they think about the fuel/ethanol/water problem. Careful with the sea foam with ethonal fuel. It dosen't like it. Ring free is a great product and stabil fuel saver.

Yep, I believe with the fuel/water separator and Stabil Marine and the Ringfree all the time, you'll be pretty much home free on fuel problems. Good Luck!
