8 HP Thermostat replacement cost?

I'm looking at buying a mid 90's 8hp Yamaha. When the motor starts up, you get air out of the pee hole, but not water. Think it might be the thermostat (any other thoughts?).

Roughly, how much would that cost to replace?

How much ?
If it's pumping air now, how long has it been doing that ? How many times has it been started without cooling water ?
You would think that the head gasket is blown, along with water pump housing, impeller, etc, etc. Some nasty damage may have been already done to this motor. A stuck 'stat is the least of your troubles.
Personally, I'd wait till another motor came along.

Buying a Bad used engine vs brand new ... priceless...

I've got a 2008? 8 HP (2 stroke) Great engine goes like the wind, cost about $1850.00 new and it weights about 60 pounds.

Just my 2 cents though.

It is a cost benefit thing.
