I have a 2000 model 50hp fourstroke on a 17 aluminum fishing boat and my max rpm is 5000, that's with one person and a half tank of gas, I running a 12x14 pitch prop. Is this rpm within specs or do I need to be turning more rpm's? Also when in neutral my rpm is 1200 and sometimes 1400 isn't this a little high? It seems to me that it hits hard when putting it in gear, where is the adjustment for the idle? Thanks

The operating rpm range is 5000-6000 rpm's.
Idle rpm's in neutral for F50 is 750 rpm's, T50 is 950 rpm's(idle adjustment is on throttle linkage at carb)
You probably need to drop to a 10 pitch prop.
