Just a quick question on how to pour in gear oil. When filling with gear oil is it necessary to use a pump or can you also fill it in from the top as well.
The prescribed method is to fill it from the bottom until it comes out of the top(vent) hole. This allows the air to escape out of the vent hole as you pump in the new oil. Buy the little pump at Walmart($10) and the whole job becomes real easy and not nearly as messy. Drain oil into a clean container allowing for careful inspection of old oil for water, metal particles or cantamination. The old oil should look just like the new oil if exerything is as it should be. Be sure you have the correct screw-in adapter for your particular motor. Good Luck!
