  • Oil Pump Issue?

I had the low oil icon on my gauge light up last time out. Filled the external tank full (2.5 gallons) and made sure the engine side reservoir was full too. iCon still staid lit. Took the sensor out of the reservoir, and the little neoprene washer fell off into tank. Pulled the tank off, drained it and recovered the washer. Reassembled, and turned the key to the on position, and the reservoir did not fill up! Tried the toggle switch and still no oil! The line from the 2.5 gallon tank was not pinched or anything.

Do you think the pump is bad? Even if I manually fill the side reservoir, the icon stays lit? I am lost here.

    Thanks in advance

Check the wiring harness between engine and remote oil tank(tank in boat) for corrosion or bad connections, check the electric oil pump in remote oil tank.

      Update

I found a grounding issue in the harness from the engine to the reservoir. Thanks for the information.

Question: The 2.5 gallon tank is full, and the reservoir on the engine is full, but the yellow icon on the gauge is still illuminated indicating low oil. Any ideas?

Either you have a broken wire or bad wire connection between oil tank sensor and engine or oil level sensor in boat tank is bad.
The oil transfer pump will not transfer oil to engine oil tank as long as the yellow light is on.

          Thanks Boats.net

I am going to check the sensor in the boat tank this afternoon. I replaced the 4 wire harness from the engine to the boat tank after finding an area that had rubbed in the bilge and cut one of the wires. The oil pump will pump oil manually to the engine if I use the toggle switch now.
