  • Yamaha F100 DET - no fuel gauge in the istrument

My Yamaha instrumentation has just stopped with showing the gauge of the fuel.

Have any of experienced the same problems, and have found any good way to solve it ?

Check to see if it has 12 volts between yellow and black wires at gauge with ignition key on. Remove the sender lead from the fuel tank level sender and touch it to ground wire with ignition key on and fuel gauge should read full, if gauge reads full then tank sender is bad. If not then it has bad wiring going to gauge or gauge is bad.

      Hi,

thank you very much the mail.

In the same Yamaha instrument i also have the speed gauge indicator (Multifunctionmeter round).

I actually think that both functions (speed / fuel gauge) has stopped working at the same time.

Could theese 2 functions have any common connections / wirings ? - as i remember, the speed indicator just stopped with working after sailing about 2 hours or so.

      Hope you can help.

I have found out that when i have filled up the tank the indicator level i is at lowest position. When i'm sailing and consuming fuel the indicator level is rising.

I think that the indicator is working reverse. When the engine is consuming more and more fuel the indicator level is rising and rising. When i have the highest level fuel on the indicator, the fuel tank is actually empty.

Do you know a way to solve this problem ? maybe reset to factory default settings or so.

You would have to reverse the tank sender leads going to gauge.

            Hi again,

            Thanks for the mail

actually i have just filled the tank full and changed the fuel tank sensor type to ABYC-US. Now it correctly shows full tank on the indicator. If i now choose the setting EUROPE it shows empty tank again. If i choose YAMAHA the indicator shows half tank.

My conclusion is that my sender type is ABYC-US ?

Is there a site on the net showing the difference between the 3 fuel tank sender types ?

The Yamaha setting is for senders with 5-105 ohms, The US setting is for 30-230 ohm senders and European is for 180-0 ohm senders. You would have to measure resistance of your sender.

I had my boat rigged with a Digital Speedometer (looks like 6y5-83570-s6-00). I initially put 20 gal of fuel and have no bars on the display. I have a 180 gal tank so it should show at least 1 bar (out of 8).
Is there a way to set the tank capacity in the gauge? I have seen on some forums where it is suggested that the tank must be fill to total capacity and the gauge reset. I found an owner manual but I do see how to reset the fuel gauge.
Any suggestions on how to configure/calibrate the speedometer fuel gauge?
