  • Motor starts in gear

I recently discovered that my 2006 50hp tiller can start while still in gear. Hopefully it's only a loose connection or a failed switch. Any ideas where to begin?

    Thanks

I do plan on buying a manual, but for now I would like to remedy this problem ASAP.

        Probably just out of adjustment...

It's probably just out of adjustment. Its a mechanical cable / plunger block out system. Here's a link with a pic of the system and the adjustment : Boat Stuff :: Yamaha 50 Start Protection System picture by Hamfisted - Photobucket . Hope it comes out clear enough to read. Send me and email address and I can send you the factory service manual for the motor.
