F6 F8 conversion

Hi, I have an F8 short and an F6 long. I would like to swap parts to make the long leg 8HP for my runabout, and make the short leg 6HP for my young sons to learn on in my 12' cartopper. I notice in the specs that these motors are almost identical. Is it possible to swap parts to accomplish this change? If so, is it the carbs? Gears? Any type of control module? I want to do this because I know the history of these two motors, and do not want to trade to other unknown motors. Any help provided would be much appreciated!
