Pulser coil lead coupler/ oil controler

1985 115 HP Yamaha ETLK, I just recieved my new oil con*****er (6E5-WS857-00-00)from boats.net and it has a wire that needs to go to the pulser coupler (per instructions). What does that wire do? is it needed since the old one didn't have one like that? can I just tape it up?

You will need to connect the wire and install plug caps or it's not going to work very well.
