1996 115 saltwater series..My trim and tilt stopped working while I was raising the motor. I know I can use the manual tilt to lower the motor but when I press the tilt down button I can hear the motor running but nothing is happening. The two trim rams are still petruding out and are not sinking back in. Where should i start trouble shooting?

Assuming the fluid level is normal, if you can hear the trim/tilt motor running up or down and motor is not moving, then it sounds like pump problems. The pump will have to be torn down and repaired. If you want to try it yourself, get a Yamaha shop manual (yamahapubs.com). There is a good mechanic over here in Orange that rebuilds trim/tilt pumps (he did mine a few years ago and saved me a bundle). If you want his name and number, e-mail me and I will call him to see if he still rebuilds the pumps.
