  • 115 2 stroke no spark

I have a 1985 115etlk 2 stroke with an occasional no start-no spark. The engine cranks fine but will not fire. Pulled wires and checked for spark- no spark. If the engine sits for a short period of time it will fire right up. I have tried disconnecting the engine kill wire at cdi- no difference. I suspect either a stator or cdi. Does anyone have the pinout and resistance specs for the stator and pulsor coils?

try unhooking 10 pin main harness at motor and check again.

Tried that with no change. Also tried disconnecting white engine kill wire on cdi which will bypass all kill circuits.

Check your ground from the cdi unit. Make sure it is good. Its the black wire.

i had the same problem on a 1991 model, it was the cdi
i don't remember the color of the wires, but the voltage was around 115 volts at the stator at cranking speed.
make sure all your grounds are good, it does not hurt to double ground wires when you check electrical.
          good luck

It could be a bad stator or CDI unit. You would need a peak reading volt meter to test output voltage of ignition system.

Already tried the white white. I have a peak reading volt meter. I need the wire colors and stator specs to test it.

160 volts between brown and red charge coil leads.
45 volts between blue and black/red charge coil leads
125 volts between black/white and black CDI output leads.
2.5 volts white/red and white/yellow pulsor coil leads
2.5 volts white/black and white/green pulsor coil leads

Thanks for the info. I will test it as soon as the weather warms up a bit.

I have the exact same problem and have done the same troubleshooting. What ended up being the problem?
