I just picked up the boat. Hooked up a battery no power it wouldnt turn over or trim. After doing some searching found a 20 amp fuse blown in the motor. Now I have trim power at the motor but motor wont crank. when key is in off position motor trims up automatically. when kill switch is pulled motor trims up. I have no trim up or down at the throttle control. The motor does fire when jumped of the starter. Please help perchin is finally getting good?

Sounds like control box is wired wrong to main harness and key switch or shorted wires at key switch and main harness.

Thanks for your reply. I got the boat from a friend he said sometimes he would have to squirt the trim switch on the throttle with wd-40 but other than that ran great. Would that trim switch have anything to do with the boat not turning over with the key. Is it common for the key switch to go bad? Again thanks for your reply!

Trim switch wouldn't affect starting circuit, make sure gear shift lever is in neutral position.
It could be a bad key switch, neutral switch or wiring harness preventing it from starting.

Well I just found out that the previous had hooked up the battery backwards, which would explain the 20 amp fuse blown on the motor. I can't seem to find where any wires have melted. Would it be possible that it is in the main harness running from the key switch to the motor, I would think it would fry somewhere where it makes a connection maybe in the key switch? Thanks for all your help guys I just cant afford the dealers $100 an hr right now.
