  • Problem with prop

    I just purchases a new 70 HP Yamaha 2-stroke on a G3 tunnel hull. I have a SS Solas 3-blade
(13 1/4 X 17). The operating range for this motor is 5,000 to 6,000 RPMs, ideally to run at 5800 or 5900 RPMs. On the tunnel hull the motor is mounted high on the transom but the prop is well within the tunnel. I only have 2 hours on the motor (breaking in) but can only turn 4400 rpms trimmed out max. Of course I plane out almost instantly, obviously this prop has too much bite on low end. Any suggestions on the "correct" prop.
    Thanks

    Johnny,
If the max operating rpm for your motor is 5000-6000 rpm per the owners manual, then 5500 would be the ideal max you want to shoot for.
Sounds like the 17" prop has too much bite - need to go next step down in pitch to get the rpm up at max throttle and trimmed out. The dealer you bought the motor from should work with you on this.
    Good luck,
