broken gear selector

i recently striped my gear box out to change my water impella . when i did this i broke the gear slector rod off right were it joins in side the shaft any one have sudjestions on how to repair this with out me taking it to a mechanic
i was quoted R1500 to repair it i think this is madness

Don't know what model you have but if it's the lower shift shaft that broke it may be able to replace it without disassembling gearcase. If it's the upper shift shaft then the powerhead would have to be removed to replace shaft.
