  • 1994 225hp SWS misfires help!

My motor misfires on 2 cylinders. I've tried new plugs, new fuel and filters. Carbs clean. On a cold start it sounds fine but as it warms it misfires and won't dies. Help!

The idle jets in your carbs are clogged up with gum, varnish and debris. If the motor sat for more than a month without being run it happens all the time. You can clean 'em out yourself with some Berryman's Chemtool spray cleaner(Walmart auto section...). Use fuel stabilizer like Sta-Bil to help prevent the problem in the future. If you don't have one already go to www.Yamahapubs.com and order a service manual for your motor, they ship it to your door. The idle jets are the smaller of the two brass bolt-looking things at the bottom sides of your carburetors. You can remove them with a flat screwdriver. Heck you might as well pull out the main jets too, they're the bigger brass bolt-looking things there nest to the idle jets. Inspect the main jets for debris and blockage of the orifices and the condition of the orange O-ring seal. Replace the O-ring (dealer item $5) if it looks torn or cracked. Spray some cleaner up into the carb bowls as well to flush out the bowls. Run the motors every few weeks in the future to keep the carbs cleared out. Good luck.
