  • Low Speed Temp Alarm - Intermittent...???

    1990 Yamaha 150 ETXD

I (SOMETIMES) get an overheat alarm when *****ing. This only happens sometimes. I shut the motor down and sometimes I can fire it right back up and the alarm is gone, other times, I have to let it sit for 15-30 minutes and let it cool off before the alarm stops.

    Where do I begin?

The first time this happened (about a month ago), I immediately replaced the thermostats because they were cheap and had no idea when the last time the PO did it. I thought this solved the problem, but it's come back up again...

Again, this is low speed/*****ing/idle speed only. I never get the temp alarm when at speed or on plane. The water pump is new too!

Thanks in advance for the help in troubleshooting!

That is usually a water pump problem, check water pump housing to see if melted or distorted. Check pressure control valve.
