Help! 2000 60hp Yamaha Solenoid...

I need some quick help to determine whether my solenoid is bad. I cannot start my motor unless I use a screwdriver placed between and touching the two solenoid posts simultaneously. Of course the ignition is on while I do this so it is getting plenty of battery. If I replace the solenoid will this likely remedy my problem? Please help, I am a new boat owner and a novice. Thanks in advance!

Apply 12 volts to brown wire on solenoid, if starter turns over solenoid is working.
