Salt Removal

Have a 1999,90 HP 2 stroke that has a lot of salt builup visible on the engine internals when I removed the thermostat.
I plan on removing the cylinder and exhaust covers and clean out this builup.
I would appreciate some input from anyone who has done this as to the best way of removing the deposits, and what parts should I order before disasembly

my motor is the exact same 1999 yamaha 90c 2 stroke also, and I've thought about how to flush the motor, although I haven't actually done it yet. My plan is to run the motor in a 55 gallon drum of fresh water and use some automotive radiator flush in it. seems the cooling system on a car is very similar to an outboard motor with many different parts of aluminum, plastic, rubber, etc. I plan to research this idea before I do it but it might be a plan. of course it would be great to remove the exhaust covers, etc. and manually clean as much of the salt deposits as possible before any flushing. just an idea...

just completed that very task a little differently though. the engine i worked on was a 1991 90. i removed the head water jacket and exhaust cover. using condensor coil cleaner from home depot, i put it in a spray bottle and then sprayed the passages accordingly. it melts the salt away and cleans up easy.
