oil pump rod

I was having problems with my 2002 yamaha 150 2 stroke surging and running rough, so I cleaned the carbs, major difference she runs great, I marked everything except the oil pump rod, there are 2 holes ont he carb for the rod to terminate too, do I use the one closest to the engine block or further, or does it matter.

Connects to end of carb lever(outside hole).
