  • F225 wont return to idle speed in neutral

I had posted a few days ago thinking that this problem was related to a recall on the throttle link rods. After boat has been running for a while, If I shift to neutral, the engine does not return to idle speed. Turns out that the recall was in fact already done on the engine.

Any ideas what else this could be? I looked at the motor ends of the cable and did notice that the rubber boots had pulled free, but the cables still seem to operate smoothly. Are these cables sealed or do they need lubricating?

    Check the cable end adjustment...

Disconnect the cable ends from the motor linkage pins and make sure that with the throttle control lever in the neutral detent, and the motor in the neutral detent, with the idle speed screw set correctly, that the cable end hole lines up perfectly with the motor's linkage pin. The cable end should just drop over the linkage pin with no interference. Loosen the lock nut and rotate the cable end if need be to make sure there is no interference.
