I have a 1999 yamaha 40 hp tlrx and it is dropping from 5,000 rpm to less than 2,000 rpm with the throttle wide open. I have chanced fuel tanks, hoses, fuel pump, water pump, had the carburetors cleaned and replaced both heat sensors. The over heat horn does not sound off although it test fine but the problem still exist. There are no signs that the engine is actually over heating. I now believe the CDI is faulty and causingthe engine to react as if it were over heating. I hesitate to replace the CDI because of its cost but I will if I have to. I would like to know if anyone has had a simular problem and if changing the CDI corrected the Problem? Thank You for any Information.
