6p3-24560-00-00 Filter Assy

Hi, I am a new member and I was looking to see if anyone may have an answer regarding the fuel filter assembly 6P3-24560-00-00.

The fuel filter on my F150 (Mfg date June '07) uses the part number above. For the life of me I can't get it unscrewed. I've seen the other threads about ethanol swelling the filter cup making it difficult to unscrew so I'm gonna replace the entire assembly while I let the one I have dry out so I can get it open. Then I'll have a spare to switch out each time I wanna chage the element.

One dealer said Yamaha has "reengineered" the assemby/cup and I shouldn't have future difficulties unscewing the cup.

Does anyone have any knowledge of that being a true statement. Has Yamaha fixed that problem or maybe using a different plastic for the cup?

yes they did recently change the design but i have never heard of not being able to get it off.

I am in the same position... I cannot open it ... Or I don't know how to open it. I'm going to buy the entire assembly. Is there any trick to open it ? It needs to be unscrewed ?

Remove the nut holding the filter assembly on and then you can get your hands/pliers/wrenches/whatever on it better to unscrew the filter cup. The threads on that filter cup are very fine and definitely prone to sticking, but it can be unscrewed with some muscle. I usually re-assemble useing some oil on those threads to help prevent sticking. Now since adding the fuel/water separator filter, there's almost nothing in the motor-mounted filter and it doesn't require cleaning but every now and then, just to be sure.

I believe I have read you can take the whole thing off, drain it of all fuel, and let it sit for 24 hours as the ethanol will swell the cup. putting in the freezer helps some times also to reduce the swelling

Do you mean you completely remouved the filter from the engine ? Does it make any improvement to the fuel system ?

I also have a filter with water separator, it is installed near the tank. Make is Racor

DO NOT remove it from the system.
NO improvement will be gained and some loss of filtration may occur.
yes the E-sheet swells the cup, yes occasionally we tear the cup threads removing them.
if its that tight remove the assy and lock the top in a vise and remove the cup with a strap wrench.
if the threads are not damaged let it sit overnight and it will go back on.
the later style uses a different element than the original style.
