engine bog down

70 Yamaha engin 2 years old sat last summer on dry land. Put in the water today, started ok, idle ok but would not get power under load. Was told the high speed jests are cloged and need carb cleaning. Any tips to an alternative besides tearing down the carburator.

None. Get used to it. I usually tear down my carbs on my '87 ProV 150 every spring and dunk 'em. Yammies carbs are pretty much infamous for getting fouled up when they sit for any length of time.

No you are better off to go ahead and tear them down and clean. A lean running engine can cause serious engine damage.
