  • Teleflex trim gauge hookup

I'm hooking up a teleflex trim gauge to my '87 ProV 150. The teleflex instruction manual says to hook to the pink wire on the harness for the sender and then the black on the harness to ground for pre-01 Yamaha's. A little further, it then states that the gauge SHOULDN'T be hooked to pre-01 trim senders due to potential damage that could be done because pre-01 senders run on lower voltage. Which is it? Can I hook it up or can't I? Furthermore, will newer Yamaha trim gauges work with an older Yamaha motor like I've got?

As far as I know Teleflex doesn't have a Trim gauge that will will work on older Yamaha's. Up to 2000 model Yamaha used a 3 wire trim sender then in 2001 they changed to a 2 wire sender so that they would work with aftermarket gauges.
