2004 T-50 Lower unit issue

I had to replace my prop shaft. I put everything back together inside the lower unit but i think im having some problems with the shift rod or something. I've put the lower unit in about 10 different times now and it won't shift and if it does shift it will go in nuetrel when in reverse and won't go into forward. Any ideas cause i've tried everything.

** When the motors in nuetrel and the L/U is in nuetrel the slines on the shift shaft don't line up. Same for forward and reverse.**

Sounds like shift shaft is not in gearcase correctly.
